Board Communique February 2020

Dear Members

Principals Australia Research Foundation Ltd’s (PARF) Board met on 19 February 2019. At this meeting the Board addressed 3 key matters:

  1. it received a report and processed recommendations from the Research Funding Panel

  2. it reviewed progress with the investment portfolio manager

  3. as a focus for the Board is the development of the strategic plan for PARF, a draft was presented with further work to be completed.

Research Funding Applications

PARF received a number of applications and the Research Funding Panel considered each application against the Research Funding Guidelines. Applications that were approved for funding were assessed as being strong in their outlining of planned research focused on school leadership, of the alignment of the research to the funding objectives and in their responses to the application questions.

The Board acknowledged each association’s commitment to research and development in school leadership. PARF is planning to conduct a 2021 funding round. Further information is schedule to be available later this year.

The Board endorsed the recommendations from the Research Funding Panel that the following 3 research applications be funded in accordance with the funding guidelines:

  1. Queensland Association of State School Principals – Leading Primary Schools: The social economic and educational benefits;

  2. NSW Primary Principals Association – Empowered Leaders Creating the Future;

  3. South Australian Secondary Principals Association – Building Leaders’ Capacity to manage the Paradox of the Principalship.

The necessary administrative processes for advancing the research have commenced. The Board looks forward to working with the successful associations and to the expected outcomes from the research projects.

John Laing Awards

The Board resolved to discontinue the John Laing Awards as the awards’ concept no longer aligns with the research nature of PARF. PARF’s Board encourages each Member Association to consider how they might recognise outstanding individuals for their contribution to principal professional learning and development.
