Board Communique December 2020

Dear Members

Principals Australia Research Foundation Ltd’s (PARF) Board met via Zoom on 25 November 2020. The meeting agenda included 3 key matters:

1. Appointment of Chair and Deputy Chair.

2. Risk Management Register and Plan.

3. Research and Development Funding Panel report and recommendation.

Appointment of Chair and Deputy Chair

In accordance with the constitution, the directors appointed Dennis Yarrington as Chair and Michael Hall as Deputy Chair of PARF for the next 12 months.

Risk Management Register and Plan.

The Board reviewed the draft risk register and considered processes for assessing risks as part of developing and completing the Risk Management Plan. The Board noted the peculiar challenges of 2020, the realised and likely impact on the performance of the investment portfolio and the consequent potential to impinge on operations for PARF.

The belated Auditor’s review of the financial statements was noted by the Board. A copy will be added to the Annual Report and Financial Statements. This will be available at www.parf.org.au

Research Funding for 2021

The Board considered the recommendation from the Research Funding Panel and was pleased to approve the recommended $15 000 funding for a research project from the Australian Secondary Principals’ Association: Attraction and Retention of Australian Secondary School Principals. (Nb: Director Andrew Pierpoint, President of ASPA, took no part in the assessment or approval process.) This research will seek to assess factors that influence people's decisions to become principals, and to remain within the role, so that targeted and contextualised strategies may be developed to encourage people into Principalship, and to support them to remain in the role for longer

PARF looks forward to the outcomes of this research which we anticipate will have real world applicability.

I wish every school leader and principal association member a restful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year and for a less challenging 2021.

Dennis Yarrington

Chair
