Board Communique May 2022

Dear Members

The Principals Australia Research Foundation Ltd (PARF) Board met on 10 May 2022 at Ainslie School in Canberra. Key agenda items were:

-        Communication Strategy

-        Investment portfolio strategy and mix

-        Board capabilities

-        Research Funding Allocation for 2023.

Communication Strategy

The Board reviewed the draft Communication Strategy presented and adopted the Strategy with minor amendments. The Strategy is designed to promote completed and currently funded research projects.

Investment portfolio strategy and mix

The Finance and Investment Committee updated the Board on recommendations for the investment portfolio and asset mix from JBWere, PARF’s investment managers and advisers. The recommendations were assessed, resulting in clarifying information being sought from JBWere. Subject to that additional information, the Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee was authorised to advise JBWere to proceed with recommendations and to modify the investment portfolio regarding defensive/growth asset allocations.

Board capabilities

The Board agreed a capabilities matrix that identifies the knowledge, skills, experience and perspectives that would enhance the Board’s effectiveness in pursuing the Strategic Plan. Each Director is completing their personal assessment against the matrix. The combined matrix will be shared at the next Board meeting and will help to identify complementary capabilities that the Board should seek in future appointments to the Board.

Research Funding Allocation 2023

Funds were allocated for up to $80,000 for research in academic year 2023. The 2023 Research and Development Funding Guidelines and the Application Form are available on the PARF website at www.parf.org.au

The PARF Board extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to Wendy Cave, Principal, and Staff at Ainslie School for hosting our Board meeting at their school and for the progress report on the AGPPA leadership research project they are progressing.
